Prof. Arnold among experts who participated in land-use regulation debate
Brandeis School of Law Professor Tony Arnold, an expert in land use issues, participated in an online policy debate about land-use regulations, hosted by the Urban Institute and the Cato Institute.
The July 2017 debate focused on the costs and benefits of land-use regulations and featured experts from universities, policy centers and industry associations.
"My favorite benefit of zoning and land use regulation is also the cost that concerns me the most: the adaptability of zoning and land use regulation. At the core, zoning and other land use regulations function as a set of tools by which people shape the places and communities in which they live, work, and play. (See The Structure of the Land Use Regulatory System in the United States). Zoning and land use regulations are the means by which both public and private values – including protection of the public health, safety, morals, and welfare — guide how our lands and places are developed," Arnold says in a transcription of the debate.
