Lynn Car Scholarship Fund Preference to applicants interested in rural social work regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age. Distributions from the Fund Will be used for scholarships in support of a student seeking a Masters Degree In Social Work. The scholarship will be awarded based on need and/or merit in accordance with the policies of the University of Louisville then in effect. Once selected, a student may continue to receive the scholarship until graduation so long as the Dean of the School of Social Work determines that the student Is making satisfactory progress toward a master's degree. The recipient of the scholarship will be selected by the Dean of the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science. The selection will be subject to the approval of the University's Director of Financial Aid.

NIA Endowed Award This scholarship is designed for the advancement of African American students but is open to all eligible students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age. The Award recipient will be a person who is a current student in good academic standing with the Kent School of Social Work & Family Science. Demonstrates significant financial need; and is selected by a Kent School of Social Work and Family Science selection panel to best represent the spirit of the NIA award which Is a Swahili Word Meaning "Purpose."

JoAnn Harrison Memorial Scholarship Fund

Distributions from the Fund will be used for scholarships in support of students seeking a Master's degree in Social Work from the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science
The recipient(s) of the scholarship will be selected by the scholarship selection committee of the Student Financial Aid Office and/or the Office of Admissions, subject to the approval of the Director of Financial Aid, in consultation with the Dean of the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science. Once selected, a student may continue to receive the scholarship until graduation so long as the student meets the renewal requirements as established by the University's Director of Financial Aid.

$500 scholarship award. This scholarship is designed for the advancement of students who identify as Transgender, nonbinary, Gender Queer or Gender Nonconforming, however, this award is open to all eligible students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age. The student chosen will exemplify the attributes necessary to be an advocate for Trans rights within the field of Social Work.

The letter must speak on the impact your hope to have after you accomplish at your time at the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science. Additionally, it must include what impact have you had, or do you hope to have at your practicum site, in your classes, and within your community.

Dreamers & Seekers Scholarship This scholarship aims to provide support for African American BSW students who graduated from Male High School in Louisville, KY, but is open to all eligible BSW students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age. The award can be used for tuition, books, school supplies or other educational expenses. Incoming first year undergraduate student with a minimum 3.0 high school GPA. Applicants must submit a 300-word essay answering the question: “What is guiding your educational journey and why is it important to you?”

 

Kent School of Social Work and Family Science  - Financial Aid  An award will be made each year to a student pursuing their MSSW at the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science. The award may be used for books, tuition, or any other educational expense directly related to the pursuit of a degree.  It is the Donor's preference that the recipient be a single mother who values education and is from a historically underrepresented background. However, the Scholarship is open to all eligible students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age.
Kent School of Social Work and Family Science  Masters Scholarship-Quasi To be used for scholarships for students obtaining Masters degree in Kent School of Social Work and Family Science. Applicant must complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) with UofL’s Financial Aid Office.

HBCU Cardinal Express-Quasi To award to a MSSW student that is a graduate from a historically black college or university accepted into an advanced standing MSSW program.  

The HBCU Cardinal Express to Success admission requirements is exclusive for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) students and graduates who are seeking to pursue their MSSW degree. The HBCU Cardinal Express to Success Program is open to all eligible applicants regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, or age.

Applicant must have a bachelor's degree from a HBCU or HIS. 500-word (max) essay is required describing how you will integrate the core values and educational experiences from your HBCU or HSI to excel in the MSSW program and in your future roles as a professional social worker

The Trans* Champion Award
$500 scholarship award. VOA Mid-States Scholarship Scholarship will be awarded to a BSW Senior or MSSW student, with first preference for the BSW student. Students must have an interest in specializing in behavioral health, alcohol and drug counseling, or family therapy. The $7,500 will be distributed annually to three students ($2,500 each) who are placed in their practicum at Volunteers of America Mid-States   Selected students are eligible for a second year of funding if requirements of the scholarship are maintained. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must have a 3.0 GPA and exhibit proof of community engagement either prior to or during their time at the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science.  Eligible students must complete a 500 word essay regarding why they want to work in their desired field, specifically at Volunteers of America. The essay should include why the scholarship is important to them, what they hope to achieve with their job placement, and their career aspirations. Selections will be made by the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science Scholarship Committee, as approved by the Dean.
Centerstone Scholars Program Scholarships will be awarded to BSW Seniors who intend to enroll in the MSSW program. The $7,500 will be distributed annually to three students ($2,500 each) beginning who are placed in their practicum at Centerstone.  Selected students are eligible for a second year of funding if requirements of the scholarship are maintained. In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must have a 3.0 GPA and exhibit proof of community engagement either prior to or during their time at the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science. Eligible students must complete at 500-word essay regarding why they want to work in their desired field, specifically for Centerstone. The essay should include why the scholarship is important to them, what they hope to achieve with their job placement, and their career aspirations. Terry & Nancy Singer Scholarship Provide support for students of the Ph.D., MSSW and/or BSW program related to Oncology Social Work Applicants must be interested in oncology social work, preferably in psychosocial oncology concentration
Elaine C Payne Scholarship The student must demonstrate (through professional or voluntary experience) their concern for humanity and helping others. This scholarship is open to all eligible students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age.     
This scholarship aims to provide an opportunity for single mothers from a historically underrepresented minority background and demonstrate financial need with a FASFA on file. However, this scholarship is open to all eligible students regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, disability or age.  2-page essay is required discussing how you have and will continue to demonstrate through voluntary or professional experiences, your concern for humanity and helping others.

Students in the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science PhD program in Social Work can request support to cover expenses related to conducting, presenting or publishing PhD research from the Fund at any time. The Director of the Social Work PhD program will select and allocate awards from the Fund with oversight from the offices of the Dean of the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science and Unit Business Manager. Requests for support must be submitted in writing from the PhD student in need to the Director of the Social Work PhD program, accompanied by a letter of support from the student's primary faculty mentor or the chair of his/her dissertation committee. Kuebler Family Foundation To award an assistantship in support of one student that has been accepted into the doctoral program at the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science whose research focus is on a child welfare topic including, but not limited to residential care, foster care, adoption, etc. The award will be used to cover academic expenses, in part or in full, such as tuition, health insurance, and a monthly stipend for ten months during each academic year The Fund will be divided and awarded across three consecutive academic years so long as the student remains a student in good standing. Award amounts may vary between academic years as the funds are dispersed. The recipient of the scholarship will be selected by the Program Director of the Ph. D. The scholarship will be renewable for each year that the student is enrolled in the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science in accordance with the scholarship renewal policy then in effect, provided that the student maintains status as a student in good academic standing, and completes all necessary criteria to re-apply for the scholarship each academic year. Eligible students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and submit a 2-3 page essay in response to the prompt, “How do you anticipate your diverse background will contribute to or impact your field of interest? What does compassion mean to you and how do you do you show compassion to others?” Applicants should address how his/her academic achievements, community service activities, leadership and personal characteristics have prepared him/her to become a professional in this field.

Volunteers of America Mid-States

Submission for the Volunteers of America Mid-States scholarship and practicum opportunity is open to students who are either a BSW senior or in the MSSW program. Students must have an interest in specializing in behavioral health, alcohol and drug counseling, or family therapy. This scholarship is awarded to two students in the amount of $5,000 per academic year /$2,500 per semester. The application deadline is February 24, 2024 at 9 a.m.

In order to be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA, submit a current resume demonstrating proof of community engagement/service during their time at the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science and submit a 500 word essay. SFAO Scholarship Application
Public Child Welfare Certification Program The goal of this program is to fill the ranks of Child Welfare Workers with the most competent and well-trained workers who can provide high quality services immediately following employment    

The Cabinet has partnered with the Universities to offer Bachelor Social Work juniors and seniors their academic program in conjunction with participating in the Cabinet's child welfare training curricula prior to graduation. These students are provided instate tuition, a stipend and must complete a two-year employment commitment with the Cabinet upon successful completion of the program.

Dr. Sava M. and Emma Roberts Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to students seeking a degree in the College of Arts and Science, the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science, or the School of Medicine at the University of Louisville based on need and/or academic merit.     

This scholarship is renewable if the student is making satisfactory progress towards a degree in their respective college or school

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, students must have a 3.0 GPA and exhibit proof of community engagement either prior to or during their time at the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science. Eligible students must complete a 500 word essay regarding why they want to work in their desired field, specifically at Volunteers of America. The essay should include why the scholarship is important to them, what they hope to achieve with their job placement, and their career aspirations. Selections will be made by the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science Scholarship Committee, as approved by the Dean.

Volunteers of America Mid-States Submission for the Volunteers of America Mid-States scholarship and practicum opportunity is open to students who are either a BSW senior or in the MSSW program. Students must have an interest in specializing in behavioral health, alcohol and drug counseling, or family therapy. This scholarship is awarded to two students in the amount of $5,000 per academic year /$2,500 per semester. The application deadline is February 24, 2024 at 9 a.m. In order to be eligible for this scholarship, a student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA, submit a current resume demonstrating proof of community engagement/service during their time at the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science and submit a 500 word essay. JoAnn Harrison Memorial  Scholarship Distributions from the Fund will be used for scholarships in support of students seeking a Master's degree in Social Work from the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science The recipient(s) of the scholarship will be selected by the scholarship selection committee of the Student Financial Aid Office and/or the Office of Admissions, subject to the approval of the Director of Financial Aid, in consultation with the Dean of the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science . Lillian Milanof Appalachian Scholarship Priority for applicants who are from, lived in, or expressed interest in working in the Appalachian counties of KY, TN, WV, GA, or NC with an interest in studying child welfare. $500 will be awarded (starting in Fall of2018) to an eligible MSSW student who demonstrates evidence of financial need. It is the donors first preference that the award will be given to a student who is from, lived in, or expresses an interest in working in the Applachian counties of Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, Georgia or North Carolina. It is the donors preference that the selected student also be studying Child Welfare. Should no eligible student meet both preferences, the first preference is the desired priority.

Distributions from the Fund Will be used for scholarships in support of a student seeking a Masters Degree In Social Work. The scholarship will be awarded based on need and/or merit in accordance with the policies of the University of Louisville then in effect.
