Admissions Requirements for First-Time Freshmen Applicants
- Complete and submit a Take Flight application or Common App
- Pay the non-refundable $30 application fee.
- Students on free/reduced lunch do not pay the application fee.
- Submit your official high school transcript.
- SAT and ACT scores are optional for students. Learn more about our test-optional policy.
- No letters of recommendation are required if you meet minimum standards.

- All students applying without test scores will receive a comprehensive high school transcript review of grades and courses, particularly college preparatory courses. A UofL admissions counselor may request additional materials, such as a resume that displays involvement outside the classroom, letters of recommendation or a personal essay to demonstrate a student’s ability to succeed at the University of Louisville. - The University of Louisville does not require the Science Reasoning section of the ACT for admission to any programs. We will consider the score if it is sent in as part of the composite. UofL will not recalculate a composite ACT score to remove the Science Reasoning section if a score report includes it. reach out to your admissions counselor.
- Students applying to Engineering, Nursing or Business with the required minimum GPA, but not the required test score, can also demonstrate readiness for admission through the Accuplacer.
UofL offers guaranteed entrance into two professional programs for qualified incoming undergraduate students:
- Guaranteed Entrance to Medical School (GEMS)
- Guaranteed Entrance to Dental School (ULEAD)
These programs offer opportunities such as building relationships with mentors and faculty, receiving hands-on experience in the field, developing friendships with students who share similar goals, attending workshops and more.
Each program awards 10 students per year.
Eligible, admitted students will be notified after receiving their UofL acceptance and can apply in their New Cards Gateway.
The deadline to apply is Dec. 1.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer, Adult, Readmit and College Visitor Applicants
Application requirements for all students:
- Submit the Take Flight application.
- Send college transcripts from each institution you attended.
- Pay the $30 non-refundable fee.
Additional materials may be requested, which could include:
- High school transcripts
- A personal statement to demonstrate your ability to succeed at the University of Louisville
- A resume demonstrating career longevity in your profession
- Licensure or certifications
