Program Background
The University of Louisville (UofL) School of Nursing (SON) Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) program aims to prepare nurses to provide culturally competent care in medically underserved areas and communities. The program offers unique learning opportunities for students to develop broad experience working with underserved and vulnerable populations and to deepen their understanding of the causes and effects of health inequity, social determinants of health, and how access to high-quality healthcare can improve the lives of people and communities in underserved areas.
Bachelor’s-prepared nurses (BSN) who are seeking a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree through the family nurse practitioner (FNP), adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner (AGPCNP), or psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) tracks are invited to apply. ANEW traineeships provide up to full-tuition coverage, a dedicated academic support coach, curated professional development opportunities as well as social supports for trainees accepted into the program. In addition, the UofL School of Nursing guarantees clinical placements with licensed preceptors in health provider shortage areas (HPSAs) or medically underserved areas/populations (MUA/P) for each student and will provide staff support to secure such placements.
