Professor Abrams, Professor Abramson sign separate amicus briefs
Brandeis School of Law Professor Les Abramson signed off on an amicus curiae brief in the United States Supreme Court case of Williams v. Pennsylvania. He was one of 19 law professors to add his name to the brief.
The brief asks the Court to issue a Writ of Certiorari to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Yale Law School Professor Lawrence Fox wrote the brief, in which the central issue is whether Petitioner Terrance Williams’ Due Process rights were violated when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s Chief Justice “sat on a tribunal that decided the appeal of the case he began” in the trial court as the prosecutor.
Additionally, Brandeis School of Law Professor Jamie Abrams joined 31 other family law professors in signing an amicus brief in connection with a Writ of Certiorari before the United States Supreme Court. The professors argued that the Court should take the case and overturn the Alabama Supreme Court's refusal to enforce an adoption decree. The amici argue that finality is critical to adoption law, particularly to protect the rights of non-biological adoptive parents and to provide stability and finality to their children.
