Students

Cardinal Cards are issued to students enrolled in the current semester. Students must be registered in the current semester at least one day prior to getting a Cardinal Card.

Fall semesters: We start issuing student cards on the first business day in August. Incoming freshman will receive their card during their summer orientation session.

Spring semester : We start issuing cards on December 16th for students who are enrolled in classes for Spring 2017.

Summer semesterWe start issuing cards on May 1st for students who are enrolled in classes for Summer 2017.

What to bring with you when getting a card:

  1. Student ID Number
  2. Photo ID (driver's license, passport)
  3. Completed Cardinal Card Agreement (pdf)

Non-picture ID cards are available for students enrolled in online learning courses who are unable to visit the campus. Its purpose is to assist in proving active student status. Please note that since this card does not include a photo, it will need to be used in conjunction with some form of official picture identification. You can request your ID card if you are enrolled for the current semester by emailing online@louisville.edu.


Employees (full and part-time)

Cardinal Cards are issued to employees during their new employee orientation or while active on payroll. Employees must be active on payroll at least one day prior to getting a Cardinal Card.

What to bring with you when getting a card:

  1. Employee ID Number
  2. Photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.)
  3. Completed Cardinal Card Agreement (pdf)

 


Retirees

For University of Louisville retirees, the Retiree ID card will replace your Employee ID card. Please visit our office to exchange your current ID for the Retiree ID. Verification of retiree status is required to receive a Retiree Card, i.e.retirement paperwork must be fully processed by HR and Payroll.  Please call or email our office in advance to ensure your Retiree status has been updated.

What to bring with you when getting a card:

  1. Employee ID card
  2. Completed Cardinal Card Agreement (pdf)

Other Groups (temp employees, affiliated workers or students)

Temporary Employees:  Cardinal Cards are issued to temporary employees while they are active on UofL's payroll.  Temporary employees must be on payroll at least one day prior to getting a Cardinal Card.

Affiliated Workers or Students:  Must submit an approval letter on UofL letterhead from the sponsoring unit, signed by the Dean or VP.  A letter template is provided for your use.  This letter should be presented to the Cardinal Card staff when receiving a card.  If the affiliated individual will be assigned a sponsored account by the University (i.e. e-mail, Blackboard, etc.), please complete this letter after the account has been created.  An ID number will be assigned during the sponsored account process; this number must be included on the letter.

What is a University affiliate worker or student?
Affiliated workers are individuals who work for the university but are NOT on University payroll.
Affiliated students are individuals who are NOT enrolled in classes with the University.

Affiliate workers or student examples may include:

  1. Visiting Scholar
  2. Visiting Researcher
  3. Visiting Student
  4. Temp employee (not on UofL payroll)
  5. ROTC
  6. Other University Affiliate - to be used for any other type of individual needing access to university services.

What to bring with you when getting a card:

  1. Approval letter
  2. Photo ID (driver's license, passport)
  3. Completed Cardinal Card Agreement (pdf)

Alumni

UofL Alumni ID cards are now available and may be purchased for $5.
These cards can be used to redeem various discounts and any other offers as promoted.

First, please complete the Alumni ID Card form. Your information will then be sent to the Cardinal Card Office where you will have your picture taken and pay for your card.  (Please allow 1 business day for your card request to be processed and sent to the Cardinal Card Office.)

Visitors

Visiting patrons may purchase a Visitor Card from value port readers which are located throughout campus. Visitor Cards allow patrons to participate in the same Cardinal Cash program that is extended to students and employees. The cost of each visitor card is $2.00.

When purchasing a visitor card from a value port reader please carefully follow the instructions displayed on the machine. Visitor card purchases are non-refundable.

Visitor cards can be revalued online, at the Cardinal Card Office, or at any Value Port machine.

 


Departments

To print and copy on campus Departments may purchase a Department Copy Card at the Cardinal Card Office. These cards allow departments to add funds into an online account which is restricted to printer and copier use.

The cost of each card is $2.00. Department Copy Cards may be purchased and reloaded at the Cardinal Card Office with either a ProCard or a signed IUT. Departments may also reload copy cards online.

If a Department Copy Card is lost or stolen, the Cardinal Card Office should be contacted to place a hold on an account to prohibit purchases. If a card is not reported lost or stolen, departments are responsible for all purchases made with their Department Copy Card.
