WAITLIST - UPDATED 11/1/2023
We currently have a wait list for all new therapy and assessment clients. If you require services within the next 4-6 weeks, please consider other options in the community.
Therapy services: We currently have a wait list for therapy services and have very limited openings for new clients. If you would like to be put on the wait list, please call 502-852-6782. If you were referred by a UofL provider, please let us know.
Assessment services: We currently have a wait list for assessments. If you are seeking an assessment for learning disability accommodations and have had a full assessment in the past, we are able to do brief assessments via telehealth to be used in conjunction with your previous assessment to provide recommendations regarding accommodations.
DBT Group Therapy
The PSC offers a skills-based group for adults based on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT skills are helpful for anyone interested in coping more effectively with distressing emotions and relationship problems. People who experience frequent anxiety, anger, shame, and/or sadness would benefit from this group. This group is also helpful for people who have frequent interpersonal conflict at home and at work.
What will I learn in DBT group therapy?
The group focuses on four areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
- Mindfulness skills help decrease anxiety, distractibility, and judgmental thinking.
- Distress tolerance skills improve one's capacity to cope with stressful situations without becoming overwhelmed.
- Emotion regulation skills help decrease up-and-down emotions.
- Interpersonal effectiveness skills help decrease interpersonal conflict and stress as well as improve relational satisfaction.
It takes approximately 6 months to get through all of the skills in these areas and members are encouraged to complete all the areas twice. The group is an addition to individual therapy and you must be in individual therapy to join the group.
How much does it cost?
We use a sliding scale based on your annual household income that ranges from $5-$25 per session.
How do I join?
Call the PSC at (502) 852-6782 and let us know you are interested in joining one of the DBT groups. We will complete a phone screening to determine if our clinic services are a good fit with your needs and provide referrals to other resources in the community if necessary.
Do I need an individual therapist?
Yes. The group is very skills-focused and there is not enough time to talk deeply about how to apply the skills in your life. Therefore, you'll still need an individual therapist. We also require you to sign a release allowing us to talk with your therapist. The goal of this is to help you get to the most out of the group. If you are interested in joining a DBT group and don't currently have an individual therapist, please call the PSC at (502) 852-6782 to discuss options.
When do DBT groups meet?
There are currently two DBT groups that meet virtually once a week on Mondays from 5:30pm- 7:30pm and Wednesday from 4:30pm- 6:30pm. More group opportunities will be announced in the near future.
Please continue to follow the guidelines laid out by the CDC such as social distancing and preventative hygiene practices and continue to review the information on the UofL COVID-19 page for the latest information.
