Dr. Robertson serves as assistant dean for the Doctor of Nursing Practice programs at the School of Nursing. Roberston has practiced as a family nurse practitioner for 17 years. In the most recent 10 years, she has practiced primary care at the Kentucky Racing Health Services Center (KRHSC). The KRHSC serves members of a predominantly Latinx community who work in the horse racing industry in Kentucky. The KRHSC is a nurse practitioner run primary care clinic which offers women’s health care, mental health care, and primary care to patients. Drs. Whitney Nash and Sara Robertson won the “Edge Runner” Award from the American Academy of Nursing for their development of a clinical and integrative care model, which serves a high-need population. Drs. Nash and Robertson were also featured in the May 2018 edition of The Oprah Magazine as “Healthcare Heroes: Nurses Edition” for their work at the clinic. Robertson’s teaching focuses are pathophysiology, pharmacology, and evidence-based practice. She also serves as a member at large on the Board of the Kentucky Association of Nurse Practitioners and Nurse Midwives.
