Dr. Aleshire completed doctoral training at the University of Kentucky in 2010. She has more than 20 years of nursing experience and, for more than a decade, has mentored undergraduate and graduate students in the classroom, online learning, and clinical settings, as well as in community and global environments. Dr. Aleshire is certified as a primary care family and pediatric nursing practitioner. Dr. Aleshire previously served as an Associate Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing and at the University of North Carolina Greensboro School of Nursing, where she also held the position of director of the DNP program.
Dr. Aleshire’s research focuses on health disparities, health promotion, healthcare access, and cancer prevention/screening for minority populations. Her program of research aims to use a community-engaged approach to promote health and healthcare for disadvantaged groups, including sexual and gender minorities, black women, and women with increased risk for colorectal, breast, and HPV-associated cancers. Dr. Aleshire has authored numerous publications and presentations.
Dr. Aleshire is a member of several professional organizations, serves as a manuscript reviewer for a number of journals, and actively participates in professional, university, community, and international service endeavors. Due to her contributions to interprofessional education, scholarship, and practice, Dr. Aleshire has been recognized as a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow of the National Academy of Practice in Nursing.
