Out of State Students
The University of Louisville's MSN - Leadership, available fully online, is designed for Registered Nurses who have already earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). The MSN - Leadership is a post-licensure program and does not lead to any advanced type of professional certification or licensure. However, an MSN can open many doors for you as you develop targeted skills in leadership and management, qualify you for jobs across various settings where an MSN degree is required to satisfy employment or serve as a further advancement platform.
It is important to understand that the online MSN - Leadership requires a clinical practicum that includes 84 clinical hours, which can be completed in your local community unless restrictions apply. Please note that the Board of Nursing in certain states may restrict access to practicums and/or online programs. These restrictions may change without notice, thus it is important to notify your advisor in advance of any relocation while completing the online MSN in Leadership program. Currently, Alabama, Louisiana, and Washington have practicum restrictions, but other locations may have or could implement similar restrictions. Please also note that Tennessee is the only state where we are not approved to offer the online MSN in Leadership to any student due to the state's nursing board restrictions concerning out-of-state online programs.
If you are located in a state where the nursing board restricts access to clinical practicums for out-of-state online programs, it is possible that you may be able to complete your clinical practicum in another state where there are no restrictions. We recommend that you also contact your state's nursing board here if you have questions regarding restrictions related to completing your clinical practicum in a state outside of Kentucky.
