Professor

Dr. Shiao Woo moved from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to the University of Louisville to be the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Radiation Oncology in 2010.  He completed his residency in radiation oncology at Stanford University Medical Center.   Under his leadership the  department has acquired some of the most advanced technologies for treatment of patients and research.  In 2011 the department received full accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the highest national accreditation. The accreditation was renewed in 2014 and 2017.  The clinical research program has been significantly expanded and the department attained full membership in the national cooperative group, NRG.  There is ongoing inter-departmental collaboration with biomedical engineering researchers and cancer research scientists in several  translational research projects.

Dr. Woo is an internationally recognized authority in the treatment of brain and spinal cord tumors in adults and children. He has served on the Executive Committee of the International Pediatric Radiation Oncology Society (PROS). He is the immediate past –President of the M.D. Anderson Gilbert H. Fletcher Society, and an immediate post Council Member of the National Council of Radiation Protection and Measurement.  He is a member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO).  He has over 200 publications including book chapters.  Dr. Woo has been recognized for several years in “Best Doctors in America”.  Dr. Woo’s clinical and research interests include tumors of the blood, bone, nervous system andsoft tissue in children and adults.
