Clerkship

Fourth-year medical students are invited to apply for a 4-week rotation in Emergency Medicine at University of Louisville. First-hand exposure to a wide variety of adult patients, including trauma and critical is provided. During the rotation, students will also have access to faculty experts in the fields of toxicology, forensics, EMS, and ultrasound.

Included Experiences

  • 15 clinical shifts in a Level 1 Emergency Department
  • Student-friendly didactic conferences and procedural workshops
  • Pre-hospital experiences with Air EMS, ground EMS, and Louisville Poison Control
  • Team-focused educational atmosphere

Grade 

  • 70% - Clinical performance, as evaluated by residents and faculty within the ED
  • 30% - NBME Emergency Medicine Shelf Exam, taken at the end of the rotation

Who can apply? 

  • Our clerkship is open to 4th year students (Allopathic and Osteopathic) who are in good standing at an accredited domestic university. Per University of Louisville SOM policy, we are unable to accept students from international institutions at this time.
  • All visiting students interested in completing a clinical rotation with our department must formally apply through VSAS (Visiting Student Application Service).
