Dr. Edward Halperin was born in 1953 in Somerville, New Jersey. He received his medical degree, Cum Laude, from Yale University in 1979, and an M.A. from The Graduate School of Duke University in 2006.  Dr. Halperin completed his internship in internal medicine at Stanford University and his residency and chief residency in radiation oncology at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital.  He served on the faculty of Duke University for 23 years where he held endowed chairs in radiation oncology and medical education, served as professor and chairman of the department of radiation oncology, vice dean fo the School of Medicine and associate vice chancellor.  Dr. Halperin has published more than 195 articles in a wide range of peer-reviewed literature and is the co-author/editor of the first five editions of Pediatric Radiation Oncology and of several editions of Principles and Practice of Radiation Oncology.

In 2006, Dr. Halperin was named the dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Louisville, Ford Foundation Professor of Medical Education, and professor of radiation oncology, pediatrics, and history, and in 2011, university vice provost.  During his tenure, he recruited 12 department chairs, collaborated with other deans and administrators to create several interdisciplinary programs, and medical school applications and fundraising rose significantly.  Dr. Halperin’s research focus includes pediatric cancer, adult brain tumors, the role of radiotherapy in organ transplantation, ethics, and the history of racial, religious and gender discrimination in higher education.
