The Dean’s Staff Excellence Awards are designed to recognize the important contributions of our SOM staff to the achievement of our mission and to express appreciation for all of the seen and unseen work that assures we educate our students, serve our patients, engage with our communities, and contribute innovative research at an exceptional level of excellence.
Every staff member nominated received special recognition at the 2024 UofL SOM Dean’s Staff Excellence Awards Reception on December 3.

The Cardinal Spirit Award honors an individual who exemplifies a steadfast commitment to advancing the mission and vision of the University of Louisville School of Medicine, demonstrating exceptional achievement and performance excellence. This award recognizes an individual who embodies the spirit of the University of Louisville, known as a "Cardinal," through the following qualities:
- Commitment to Service: Exhibits dedication to serving the unit, students, the general public, and university colleagues.
- Productivity and Quality: Maintains a sustained high level of productivity and consistently delivers exceptional quality of work.
- Initiative: Shows a high degree of initiative in performing job functions.
- Dependability: Displays exceptional dependability in all responsibilities.
- Relationship Building: Effectively cultivates positive relationships with others.
- Leadership: Demonstrates leadership qualities that inspire and motivate colleagues.
- Enhancement of University Image: Enhances the university’s image through professional publications and public service.
- Nominees are not required to meet all criteria, but their nomination should highlight their service orientation and dedication to the University's mission. The recipient of the Cardinal Spirit Award lives out the mission of the University of Louisville in all aspects of their work, serving as a role model for pride and excellence within the University.
- Team Impact Award[$500.00 Award]
- The Team Impact Award at the University of Louisville School of Medicine is presented to a team or group demonstrating exceptional performance and achievement in advancing the mission of the School of Medicine. This prestigious award recognizes collective efforts that significantly contribute to the enhancement of medical education, innovative research, and outstanding patient care. Recipients of the Team Impact Award exemplify collaboration, dedication, and excellence, embodying the core values and goals of our institution. Through their impactful work, these teams inspire and drive the continued success and growth of the School of Medicine.
- Dean's Lifetime Achievement Award [$500.00 Award]
