Ideas to Action events, programs and faculty development
Every spring, the i2a Institute brings together UofL faculty and staff, along with colleagues from other higher education institutions across the country, to engage in a series of workshops and interactive sessions focused on the teaching and learning of critical thinking in a higher education setting. Grounded in the concepts and vocabulary of the Paul-Elder critical thinking framework, the i2a Institute provides a collaborative environment for participants to explore how critical thinking concepts apply to their work with students across disciplines and departments.
Lights, Camera, i2a
This program is a collaboration between the Delphi Center, i2a and the Digital Media Suite. Faculty received one-on-one assignment design support to infuse i2a concepts into their digital assignment design and students received technical support and access to professional-grade equipment to develop and produce digital projects.
i2a Supporting Undergraduate iNnovation (SUN) Grants
The i2a SUN Grant program is an annual small-scale, internal funding program designed to give faculty and/or staff a grant to develop, implement, and assess projects that will directly and significantly support the sustained incorporation of selected i2a outcomes into undergraduate programs and courses.
i2a Faculty Learning Communities
A Faculty Learning Community (FLC) is a structured opportunity for a group of 10-12 faculty members who teach undergraduate courses to engage in cross-disciplinary dialogue, structured activities, and reflection focused on i2a teaching topics. The Faculty Learning Community on Critical Thinking (FLC-CT) is a semester-long program during which a small group of faculty engage in dialogue and structured activities that assist them in infusing the Paul-Elder critical thinking framework into their course curriculum. The Faculty Learning Community on Culminating Undergraduate Experiences (FLC-CUE) is a year-long program that guides faculty in the development and implementation of a new Culminating Undergraduate Experience assignment or learning project in an undergraduate course. The Part-time Faculty Cohort is a learning community specifically designed to support part-time faculty in integrating i2a concepts into their teaching. The Part-Time Faculty Learning Community on Critical Thinking is a two-semester program designed to assist the part-time faculty (with preference given for those who teach Gen Ed courses) in incorporating i2a critical thinking and assessment tools into their course design and assignments.
The i2a team organizes and sponsors events periodically to deepen and broaden our campus conversations on critical thinking, culminating undergraduate experiences (CUE), and community engagement.
