Hoffman on his latest book, The Engaged Scholar: Expanding The Impact of Academic Research in Today’s World, moderated by Michael Crow, president of Arizona State University. Hoffman has published over 100 articles and book chapters, as well as 18 books which have been translated into five languages. We will explore the limitations of the academic reward system and the importance of scholarly engagement in the public sphere. How should scholars use social media? Why is getting academic research out to the public a critical goal? How does research impact society, and what are the future trends? Michael Crow, the sixteenth president of Arizona State University, is an educator, knowledge enterprise architect, science and technology policy scholar, and author of books and articles analyzing the design of higher education institutions and systems. His “New American University” model is dedicated to the simultaneous pursuit of comprehensive excellence, broad inclusion and meaningful social impact has driven ASU’s rapid transformation into one of America’s leading public metropolitan research universities.
