Community-based Learning (CBL) Courses

As part of the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement, the university continues to identify courses and credit-bearing experiences involving curricular engagement in the community].  Courses involving community engagement are assigned the designation of Community-Based Learning (CBL), which identifies a pedagogy that explicitly engages students in addressing community issues in order to increase students' understanding and application of academic content.  CBL courses are to include student learning outcomes concerning application of the concepts and skills of an academic discipline to issues in the community. CBL courses may integrate a broad range of teaching and learning strategies and structures, including field experiences, internships, practica, co-ops, etc.
