Course Modalities

Guide for Educators

The information below illustrates the degrees of flexibility in course modality – from classes that are in the same time and place to those that can occur in different times and places.

In Person

  • All classes are in person on specific days and times at the designated campus location.

Online, Synchronous

  • All classes are online.
  • There are required virtual meetings on specific days and times. 

Blended 

  • Classes combine in-person and digital instruction, with 25-75% of sessions held in person.
  • The remaining coursework is completed online. Online activities may be synchronous, asynchronous or both. The online activities are designed to align with course objectives and balance the reduced in person sessions.

Online, Asynchronous

  • All classes are online.
  • There are no required synchronous meetings, including for assessments.
  • There are established assignments, assessment and related milestone deadlines for the learners.
