HRAP fellows participate in cultural competency training

Brandeis Human Rights Fellows participated in a cultural competency training led by local experts.

Student fellows in the Brandeis Human Rights Advocacy Program participated in a cultural competency training this week, staying true to the program's mission of being involved with the local immigrant, noncitizen and refugee community.

The program's nine student fellows met with community leaders Karina Barillas, executive director of La Casita Center, and Laura Polk, an ESL teacher at Jefferson Community and Technical College and former national immigration policy advocate with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

"These community advocates and allies helped our fellows think thoughtfully about working with diverse communities effectively," said Professor Jamie Abrams, co-founder of HRAP along with Professor Enid Trucios-Haynes.
