Another paper accepted in JASA Express Letters

Be on the lookout for "'Please say what this word is': Linguistic experience and acoustic context interact in vowel categorization", a new paper coming out in JASA Express Letters with Eleanor Chodroff. Through a stroke of luck, we were able to get our hands on a digital copy of the *original* stimuli from the classic paper Ladefoged and Broadbent (1957). We did our very best to replicate the massive effects from the original paper but we could not; moreover, we observed different context effect magnitudes across the original British sample, a current sample of British English speakers, and a current sample of US English speakers. This points to important generational and/or dialectical influences on context effects in speech perception.

If you want the original stimuli, we have posted them here: https://osf.io/mfsz2/
