Paper accepted in JASA Express Letters

Watch out for "Clear speech promotes speaking rate normalization", which was just accepted for publication in JASA Express Letters. One of the hallmark differences between clear and conversational speech is changes in speaking rate; these changes are sufficient to trigger rate normalization when categorizing consonants. We also took the long view to ask how often this might happen in everyday listening (relative to other clear speech stimuli) and how does this stack up against effect sizes in other studies of rate normalization. Congratulations are due to first author Lilah Kahloon, as this study was her Culminating Undergraduate Experience during her senior year at UofL!
