The goal of my research program is to better understand the mechanisms underlying normal and disordered speech perception and production in first- and second-language learners. Specifically, my research focuses on the characteristics of linguistic environment in families with typically developing children and children with communicative disorders. We strive to predict how the bidirectional nature of vocal interaction between children and members of their immediate environment affects language acquisition and learnability. Our most recent studies examine the effect of modern technology (e.g. telepractice, humanoid/social robot) on child linguistic behavior.
