Research Opportunties

The University of Louisville School of Nursing encourages both undergraduate and graduate students to participate in Nursing research. Student researchers are encouraged to present at local, regional, and national conferences, such as Research!Louisville or at Posters at the Capitol. Students interested in research are encouraged to discuss it with their academic advisers. Here are just a few of the research opportunities available to students:

Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP)

The Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to participate in a mentored research experience at the School of Nursing. A few previous SROP topics have included:

  • Asthma in African American children and their families
  • Home fire safety in urban older adults
  • Risk modeling using geographic information systems

Research Scholars Program

Upper division undergraduate students at the School of Nursing can participate in the Research Scholars Program, a practicum experience aimed at promoting nursing research and scholarship through faculty mentoring. Participating students may gain experience performing literature searches, implementing of research studies, assisting with manuscripts for publication, presenting findings, and more.

Assistantships

Graduate and PhD students are encouraged to consider student assistantships available to them. Research assistantships give students hands-on experience working with Faculty at many stages in the research process.
