Seeking New Faculty

The University of Louisville School of Nursing (ULSON) www.louisville.edu/nursing is an integral part of a state supported premier metropolitan university that is the 4th fastest growing research university in the nation. The School is located on the Health Sciences Center with the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine and Public Health. Situated in the heart of downtown Metro Louisville, KY (population 800,000+), the ULSON is adjacent to hospitals and outpatient centers which serve as clinical, practice and research settings.

EDUCATION

The ULSON has nearly 1,200 pre-nursing, upper division BSN, MSN and PhD students in the undergraduate and graduate programs.  Baccalaureate programs include a traditional pre-licensure program, a second degree BSN option, an Owensboro extension and a RN-BSN on-line option. The Master of Science offers advanced practice nurse practitioner (NP) specialties including acute care, adult, family, neonatal, psychiatric-mental health and women’s health/family. The PhD has two tracks: a BSN to PhD and a MSN to PhD that prepare nurse scientists; current students are from across the US and international countries including China, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, and Bahrain. Two doctoral students are a Fulbright Scholar and a 2010 Johnson & Johnson Campaign for Nursing’s Future-AACN Fall 2010 Minority Nurse Faculty Scholar.

RESEARCH

ULSON offers a rich environment for nursing science. Faculty and student research resources are available through the Office of Nursing Research and the Health Sciences Office of Clinical Research and Support Services. The ULSON offers mentorship for junior faculty through an external research mentors program tailored to the faculty research area that complements our internal mentoring program.  ULSON faculty are currently involved in interprofessional research and education focused on aging and African American women, childhood safety and neonatal physiology, community participatory research with vulnerable populations, diabetes and chronic disease management, exercise and obesity, oral health, palliative care, post-partum depression, and smoking cessation, among others. Our faculty (46 FTE) are proud of four members who are Fellows in the American Academy of Nursing

PRACTICE

Committed to addressing the needs of the community, the ULSON has nurse-led practice sites including the Caregivers Program for families experiencing Alzheimer’s disease, and the Kentucky Racing Health Services Center serving the Churchill Downs racetrack workers. Faculty serve in practice roles in a variety of settings including campus, women’s, neonatal, psychiatric, family healthcare and dentistry.
