New Donation from Kosair for Kids Advances Pediatric Nursing Education at UofL

The University of Louisville School of Nursing is thrilled to announce a significant contribution from Kosair for Kids, which will greatly benefit the School of Nursing Clinical Simulation Center.

Kosair for Kids Simulation Baby in Class

This generous donation has funded the acquisition of a high-fidelity Laerdal SimBaby Manikin and associated technology. With this state-of-the-art equipment, Kosair for Kids ensures that nursing students have access to cutting-edge simulation technology, preparing them to be fully equipped and practice-ready as they enter the healthcare workforce. This advanced equipment will significantly enhance the hands-on learning experiences for future nurses.

"This donation marks a significant step in advancing nursing education," said Dean Whitney Nash. "By providing our students with state-of-the-art tools, we are helping them develop the skills they need to deliver exceptional care and make an immediate impact in the field."

Teaching students to care for children from infancy through late adolescence is a critical specialty in both pre-licensure and advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) education. While students gain clinical experience in pediatric settings, real-world exposure to all pediatric health situations cannot be guaranteed. Clinical simulation experiences ensure students receive a comprehensive education in relevant nursing care for specific populations.

As part of a premier metropolitan research university, the University of Louisville is uniquely positioned to serve the Louisville healthcare community and beyond. UofL nursing faculty and students collaborate on interdisciplinary and multi-site research, learning alongside other health professionals through simulation technology.

The UofL School of Nursing offers a full range of educational programs, including pre-licensure options for first-degree and second-degree accelerated bachelor’s and master’s programs and multiple graduate tracks. Notably, it is the only institution in the region to offer Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner tracks.

This generous contribution underscores Kosair for Kids’ commitment to building brighter futures for children in Louisville, the Commonwealth, and beyond. The impact of this gift will be felt for years to come as nursing students are trained to meet the growing demands of the healthcare industry.

The University of Louisville School of Nursing expresses its deep gratitude for Kosair for Kids’ unwavering support and their pivotal role in shaping the future of nursing education.
