Dean Marcia J. Hern awards in Teaching and Research presented

The inaugural Hern Teaching and Research awards were announced at the Friday, Feb. 26th Faculty Organization meeting. Dr. Cynthia Logsdon received the Research Award, and Dr. Marianne Hutti was presented the Teaching Award. Additional awards will be presented at the May 3rd School of Nursing Signature event.

The awards were created by Dean Hern for creative teaching and research. Each is a separate award worth $1000. These Hern Teaching and Hern Research awards will be granted each spring to eligible full-time, term, probationary, or tenured faculty.

Criteria for the Teaching Award include:

  • Demonstrates excellence in innovative teaching and pedagogy
  • Displays leadership in curriculum or innovative teaching and/or course development
  • Contributes to the teaching mission of the SON and quality of student life
  • Shows effective mentoring
  • Designs creative and novel learning experiences
  • Receives letters of acknowledgment of mentorship and support from colleagues
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge in content area
  • Participates in faculty teaching development activities
  • Earns honors and awards

Criteria for the Research Award include:

  • Demonstrates excellence in conduct and dissemination of nursing research
  • Displays a commitment to research demonstrated by an on-going program of scholarship 
  • Continued program of dissemination of research findings locally, regionally, nationally and internationally
  • Collaborates with faculty & students
  • Demonstrates evidence of interdisciplinary program of research
  • Receives honors and awards reflecting excellence in scholarship
  • Demonstrates research integrity
  • Generates new nursing knowledge
  • Translates/applies research into practice or policy
