AHEC Scholars
Welcome to the Kentucky Area Health Education Center AHEC Scholars Program.
Come join this exciting program aimed at health professional students in Kentucky. Work with other students across the state that share your interest and passion for rural healthcare. The AHEC Scholars program isn't just for Kentucky, it is a nationally funded program by the Health Resources and Administration Association (HRSA), aimed at strengthening the healthcare workforce.
The Kentucky AHEC Scholars Program is a 2-year advanced learning opportunity which supplements classroom instruction. Selection for this program will be competitive with a formal application process. This selective program will allow students to network with other health profession students and learn how to provide care in interdisciplinary teams, while exploring current and emerging topics in healthcare. Participation in the program will be free and will confer a variety of benefits as students prepare for professional practice. The AHEC Scholars Program will focus on 40 hours of clinical and 40 hours of didactic training in a rural and/or underserved area of Kentucky each year. The Scholars Program will supplement a students' existing health professions program. Participation in this program is voluntary and the scholars will be working with other program professionals throughout the state of Kentucky, not just with students from their own city or region. AHEC Scholars will review the following core topic areas:
- Inter-professional Education
- Behavioral Health Integration
- Social Determinants of Health
- Cultural Competency
- Practice Transformation
- Current and emerging health issues
How to Apply:
The formal Application process is being developed with the goal to launch the AHEC Scholars Program in the Fall of 2018. Check back for updates on how to apply.
