Academic Advising and Course Enrollment for Your First Fall Semester

1

Complete Your Course Scheduling Form

After you register for New Cards Orientation, you will receive access to a Course Scheduling Form in your New Cards Gateway. Complete this form thoroughly and as soon as possible. Before you begin, gather information about any dual credit coursework, AP exam scores, or IB courses you have completed.

2

Engage with Your Academic Advising Unit

Prior to orientation, you may have opportunities to connect with your academic advising unit. Watch your email for communications with next steps and important information. Engagement opportunities may vary depending on your intended major.

3

Fall Schedule Preparation

Before your orientation session, your academic advisor will use your Course Scheduling Form responses along with any submitted dual credit transcripts, AP/IB exam scores, ACT/SAT test scores or Accuplacer Placement scores, or to create your fall course schedule.

4

Advising During Orientation (Day 1)

On the first day of orientation, you will meet in a group setting with your academic advising unit. Topics will include Cardinal Core (general education requirements), expectations for your advising experience starting in your second semester and beyond, and other important academic information. You will also receive your fall course schedule during this session.

5

Individual Advising (Day 2, If Needed)

While there may not be a “perfect” schedule, the goal is to have a strong first-semester schedule that aligns with your needs and major requirements prepared before you arrive for orientation. Only students who need adjustments to their pre-registered courses will meet individually with an advisor on Day 2 after program closing. Your advising unit will share more details during your Day 1 session.
