Virtual Colloquium event allows law scholars from around the country to share ideas

Brandeis School of Law Professor JoAnne Sweeny hosted the third annual Junior Scholar’s Virtual Colloquium event last week, featuring more than 10 law professors from all over the country.

The Colloquium was first organized by Gonzaga Law Professor Jessica Kiser (pictured). Sweeny’s presentation this year was titled, "The Human Rights Act as a 'Villains’ Charter:' A Discourse Analysis of Media Portrayals of the United Kingdom’s Human Rights Act."

Sweeny called the event "valuable."

"As a scholar, one of the most valuable things I do is connect with other scholars to share ideas and works in progress. The JSVC allows me to do that without the cost and inconvenience of travel. Technology has made it possible to talk to other academics across the country in real time and have deep conversations about my work and theirs," she said."It's what makes being an academic so intellectually stimulating and I'm grateful to be able to participate and even host this year."
