On Oct. 20, the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled that Louisville's minimum wage ordinance was invalid, reports WAVE 3 News.

"Louisville Metro Council members passed the ordinance in 2015, gradually raising the minimum wage to $9 an hour from $7.25. In July, the wage was lifted to $8.25 an hour," WAVE 3 reports.

Professor Ariana Levinson, whose research focuses on labor and employment law, was interviewed in the story.

"I was expecting the opposite outcome," she says, adding that the ruling gives minimum wage employees few options. "In most places, the employees would either have to agree to that or quit their jobs."
