GSS Newsletter - Week of 9/22

Dear CEHD Graduate Students,

Happy second day of Fall ya'll! Dust-off your fall sweaters and get ready to embrace a warm beverage. It doesn't have to be a PSL (although, no judgment if you love it and/or hate it). As we're inching closer to fall break, midterms, holidays and shorter days (note: we don't officially 'fall back until Nov. 1st), we wanted to carve out a segment for mental health. This year has been trying in many ways and 'doing life' in 2020 and 'doing graduate school' can feel extra draining. Therefore, in our spotlight video, we talk about some of the basics of mental health, self-care, and campus resources available to help you be your best.

The MTRP program is hosting "Minority Student Voices: Let's get it together!" on September 29, 2020 from 3:30-5:00 EST for undergraduate and graduate students ONLY. The goal of the discussion is to "express ourselves and figure out what you need as students. Students from all CEHD disciplines are welcome to attend and participate in this discussion." RSVP is required in order to receive the event link. Please RSVP by visiting this link.

Here are a few more dates to include in your planner because this semester will be over quickly. Really.

CAREER FAIR PREP CORNERFall Internship & Career Fair (Virtual) - 9/30/2020 from 11:00 - 2:00 EST. Do check out the Student Career Fair info page. Preparing for a virtual career affair is a new one to all of us and the University Career Center is pulling out the stops to make sure you are ready with their Mega Career Week events & workshops from Sept. 21 - Sept. 25.

WINTER REGISTRATION REMINDER CORNER: Winter registration will begin on October 12, 2020. More information on course offerings can be found here. Consider taking a class and getting ahead!

SP2021 REGISTRATION REMINDER CORNER: Are you thinking about Spring 2021 class registration already? You should be! Spring 2021 registration for continuing graduate students kicks-off on October 30, 2020 @ 10:30 EST.

Make sure to check your ulink account for any HOLDS. The "Pre-registration Questions" hold will be on your account every semester before you register. But, you could also have additional holds due to parking tickets, overdue library books, academic probation, etc. Check your ulink account under "Tasks" tile and give yourself time to resolve the hold(s).

DECEMBER 2020 DEGREE APPLICATION CORNER: December 2020 Degree Application Deadlines - 10/15/2020 (PRIORITY DEADLINE) and 11/14/2020 (THE TOTALLY LAST DEADLINE). Submit your degree application via ulink. More information about December 2020 Commencement can be found here.

    • Doctoral students - Your dissertation/thesis needs to be on file with the Graduate School by 11/30/2020 & you need to apply for your degree by one of the dates above!
    • Cap & Gown orders must be placed by 11:59p EST on Oct. 12, 2020 via Jostens. You need a cap & gown IF you want to participate in the December Commencement ceremony; if you don't plan to walk, then you don't need your cap & gown. For now, UofL is still planning to hold a Commencement. We don't have more details to share at this time about what it will look like, but stay tuned.

So - that's it for this week! It's a light week, we know. Tell us some great things you've been up to by sharing some good news or an awesome accomplishment. We could all use a hooray.
