Water on the Moon!

NASA today opened a new chapter in our understanding of the moon. Preliminary data from the Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite, or LCROSS, indicates that the mission successfully uncovered water during the Oct. 9, 2009 impacts into the permanently shadowed region of Cabeus cater near the moon's south pole. All-star panel and gallery image unveiling at the Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium

The 2009 International Year of Astronomy marks the 400th anniversary of Galileo Galilei's first telescopic view of the heavens. The University of Louisville and Bellarmine University are joining the celebration with a collaborative unveiling of unprecedented new NASA images of our galaxy and a panel discussion on Nov. 19. The event, co-sponsored by the universities, begins with refreshments at 7 p.m. followed by a panel discussion at 7:30 pm at the Gheens Science Hall and Rauch Planetarium at UofL. Telescopes from the Louisville Astronomical Society will be on the terrace at 8:30 PM for stargazing, weather permitting. Free and open to the public.
