Providing equally good schooling for all American children— rich or poor and regardless of race—would improve the nation’s failing education system. So says Linda Darling-Hammond, a Stanford University education professor who has won the 2012 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award in Education for her 2010 book, "The Flat World and Education: How America's Commitment to Equity Will Determine Our Future."

CEHD Faculty Receive KCCLD Grant
Penny Howell, assistant professor with the Department of Middle and Secondary Education, and Jean Wolph, Director of the Louisville Writing Project, received a $50,000 grant from the Kentucky Collaborative Center for Literacy Development (CCLD). The UofL pilot professional development program for the Collaborative Center for Literacy Development’s (CCLD) Kentucky Leveraged Adolescent Literacy & Learning Initiative (KY-LALLI) was created to provide the opportunity for middle and secondary content area teachers to engage in the construction of a deep understanding of the literacy demands in the disciplines, as well as the literacy needs of pre-adolescent and adolescent students.
The Kentucky Autism Training Center (KATC) is offering a summer institute and several workshops across the state for educators and families of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. These events offer unique opportunities for families and professionals to come together to discuss how to implement evidence-based practices at home, in communities, schools, and workplaces.
