Joanna Thompson
2014 Fulbright Scholarship recipient
UofL senior Joanna Thompson has received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant scholarship to Kayseri, Turkey, where she will teach English at Abdullah Gül University. The Erlanger native has been active at UofL as part of the Engage Lead Serve Board and is currently studying abroad in Istanbul, Turkey. She is a studio arts and anthropology double major.
The U.S. Student Fulbright Program is a federally sponsored international, educational and cultural exchange that recognizes academic merit and leadership potential. The program promotes mutual understanding between the people of the United States and those in more than 155 countries throughout the world. Fulbrights are considered one of the most prominent awards in academia.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from my community in Turkey and bring that wisdom back to my community in Louisville,” Thompson said. “I am looking forward to pursuing academic and artistic interests relating to textile workers in Kayseri.

- Areas of study: Will graduate from UofL’s College of Arts and Sciences in August 2014 with a double major in anthropology and studio arts.
