Paper accepted in Journal of the Acoustical Society of America
Be on the lookout for "Parameterizing spectral contrast effects in vowel categorization using noise contexts", which was just accepted in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. This was a large within-subjects study that parametrically manipulated the acoustic properties of noise segments to see when and how they affected categorization of subsequent vowels. Some parts of the experiment worked exactly as predicted, but other parts were completely unexpected relative to our and others' past work thus offering valuable lessons for future research. In short, pay close attention to your signals!
