Preprint posted to OSF

A preprint of our latest work on talker adaptation has been posted to OSF (link to paper and data here). This work was done in collaboration with Lee Drown and Dr. Rachel Theodore of the University of Connecticut. Our findings were adroitly summarized in this thread, but the short version is that classic studies of talker adaptation (sometimes labeled 'talker normalization') may be better viewed as adapting to acoustic variability in the stimuli instead. Changes in talker identity are not necessary to challenge speech perception; changes in the amount of acoustic variability in the stimuli (even from one talker) are sufficient.
