Grawemeyer Winner Awarded Nobel Prize
John O’Keefe, co-winner of the 2006 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Psychology, will share the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with two Norwegian neuroscientists. The prize is for for his seminal discovery of “place cells” in the rat hippocampus that maintain an internal map of different locations in the environment, serving essentially as an “internal GPS.”
