The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at University of Louisville has a long history of excellence and places keen emphasis on education. We continue to be the forerunners in cardiac assist devices and clinical excellence, and have made remarkable developments in laboratory research. The laboratory and research components of our program are working cohesively, and are housed in the new Cardiovascular Innovation Institute adjoining the endeavors of the School of Medicine, the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery and Jewish Hospital.

Working in state-of-the-art facilities, and using some of the world’s most sophisticated technology, has enabled our thoracic surgeons to be leaders in diagnosis, treatment, and discovery of heart disease and other illnesses. University of Louisville physicians are often turned to for creating the next steps in cardiovascular surgery, literally defining the leading edge of the field.

This entire program has benefited enormously from its affiliation and association with Jewish Hospital and Norton Children’s Hospital, benchmarking our undeniable success in adult and pediatric heart and lung care.
