About

Forest Arnold, DO MSc FIDSA is the Chief of the University of Louisville Division of Infectious Diseases and Director of the Center of Excellence for Research in Infectious Diseases (CERID). He also acts as Co-Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Respiratory Infections and Program Director for the Clinical Fellowship in Infectious Diseases.

With more than 23 years of experience in the medical field, Dr. Arnold is the in-patient attending physician for infectious disease services at the University of Louisville Hospital where he serves as the Hospital Epidemiologist. In this role, he provides direct patient care as well as mentorship to Infectious Disease fellows, residents, medical students, antimicrobial pharmacists, pharmacy residents and pharmacy students. Dr. Arnold also provides follow-up and continuity visits as the in-patient attending physician for infectious disease services at the University of Louisville Hospital Clinic and the Louisville Veterans Affairs Hospital Clinic. His work with infectious diseases is intertwined with programs in Infection Prevention & Control, Pharmacy, and Microbiology.

Dr. Arnold has had extensive involvement in research, primarily focused on community-acquired pneumonia. His works in respiratory infections, outbreak evaluations and antimicrobial stewardship have been published in a variety of journals including Clinical Infectious Diseases, Journal of Infection Prevention, American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, and Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. Dr. Arnold has also served as a manuscript reviewer for numerous journals including American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, Archives of Gerontology and Geriatrics, Archives Internal Medicine, Canadian Medical Association Journal, and Clinical Microbiology and Infection. As an expert in Infectious Disease for the University of Louisville, Dr. Arnold is frequently featured by local news and routinely offers medical expertise at lectures and symposiums.
