Educational Responsibilities

  1. Availability: Our rotation schedules are arranged well in advance. However, certain activities (tournaments, speaking requests, etc.) may alter the resident’s schedule. It is expected that they are generally available during regular working hours, 8am-5pm.
  2. Game coverage: This is a primary responsibility of the sports medicine resident as well as the division. Our presence is expected at most University of Louisville home athletic events. Additionally, we have responsibilities with other affiliates as well. These events are generally after hours and on weekends. Although attendance at all events is not mandatory, your presence at these events is a critical part of your training. These schedules will be reviewed regularly within our division.
  3. Active participation in the core conference series we provide monthly for the Family Medicine residency. This includes regular attendance as well as preparing approximately four lectures in an academic year.
  4. Attendance at Family Medicine Grand Rounds as you feel it pertains to your Fellowship training and your continuing education as a primary care physician. You will be asked to prepare one lecture for this series during the year.
  5. As a sports medicine resident, you may be called upon to deliver lectures to other departments or athletics staff on an intermittent basis. Also, you will be expected to prepare topics for our combined discipline lecture series.
  6. The sports medicine resident will meet with the division faculty on a weekly basis. The monthly contents will consist of a combined discipline sports medicine lecture, journal club, didactics with faculty, and review of cases with our radiology faculty.
  7. You are encouraged to keep up with the current sports medicine literature and journal article reviews will be held on a weekly basis.
  8. We encourage attendance at national meetings including the AMSSM research conference and national meeting, the ACSM national meeting, and ACSM advanced team physician course.
  9. The sports medicine resident is required to participate in the In-Training Exam in February if it is offered.
  10. The sports medicine resident is expected to sit for the Sports Medicine CAQ upon completion of fellowship.
  11. Develop, initiate, or participate in a scholarly project as approved by the faculty. This may include but is not limited to a presentation at a national meeting (poster, case presentation, etc.), a research project, or authorship of a chapter or review article.
