How to apply

We will begin accepting applications to enter the program in 2024 starting September 1, 2023. The Ph.D. application deadline is January 15, 2024. The M.S. application deadline is June 15, 2023 Review of applications begins mid-December and continues until all positions are filled.

The GRE is no longer required.

To apply to our graduate programs, go to Applications and complete the University of Louisville application form. There is a $65 application fee.

Your application should include the following:

  • A curriculum vitae describing your education (i.e. major and degree), research experience, and other pertinent information.
  • A personal statement describing your scientific interests, research experience, and fit with our program.
  • Transcripts for undergraduate and graduate studies (if applicable).
  • Three letters of recommendation from former professors, research mentors, and/or those who can attest to your scientific acumen and research potential.
  • International applicants who graduated from a university where the primary language is not English must arrange for TOEFL or IELTS scores to be sent directly to the University of Louisville. 
  • All international applicants must have their transcripts reviewed by either the Educational Credentials Evaluators, Inc. (ECE) or World Education Services, Inc. (WES)  in order to submit a “course-by-course evaluation” to Graduate Admissions.

Applicant interviews will be held from late January to mid-February 2023.
