Program Requirements

As part of a R1 Research University, the Department of Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology (ASNB) at the University of Louisville School of Medicine is looking for graduate students demonstrating a keen interest, drive, and propensity for research. Prospective students must a have Bachelor's degree or above and completed a curriculum including course work in biology, physics, mathematics, chemistry, psychology, neuroscience, and/or other appropriate scientific disciplines. Applicants are expected to have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

English proficiency is a requirement for admission to the ASNB graduate program. International students whose first language is not English must take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The minimum total score for the Internet-based test (iBT) TOEFL is 100. The minimum overall score for the IELTS test is 6.5. 

The ASNB Graduate Program no longer requires the GRE.

Admissions

All applications are reviewed by the ASNB Graduate Education Committee. This committee is comprised of faculty with appointments in the Department of Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology and evaluates each applicant's research experience, past publications, letters of recommendation, personal and educational statements, and the successful completion of previous coursework. Depending upon the circumstance, promising applicants may be admitted without completing all the recommended coursework.

The Integrated Programs in Biomedical Sciences (IPIBS) will arrange travel and accommodations for highly qualified applicants to visit the University of Louisville for interviews with the ASNB Graduate Education Committee, other Program faculty, and our current graduate students. Interviews are held in mid to late January and early February. Admission decisions are released by the middle of March.
