  MD/PhD Summer Undergraduate Research Program Application

The University of Louisville MD/PhD Summer Undergraduate Research Program is designed for undergraduate students interested in pursuing a combined MD/PhD degree. The program will introduce students to physician-scientist career paths, clearly explain the MD/PhD application process, and mentor underrepresented students and students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. Students will spend 9 weeks in the lab of a University of Louisville faculty mentor, shadow a clinician each week, and have regular interactions with current MD/PhD students. Research areas to choose from include: Cancer Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Environmental Disorders, Health Services and Clinical Investigation, Bioengineering, Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biochemistry.

The program runs from May 27th through July 26th, 2024, with observance of two Holidays with no class: Juneteenth and Independence Day. The timeline breaks down the entire breadth of the Program.

Program Requirements

  • Complete research project
  • Attend the weekly seminars
  • Give presentation and research poster at final symposium
  • Complete pre- and post-evaluation surveys
  • The position requires a full-time effort and commitment during the entire 9 week program.

Program Eligibility

  • Age 18 or over (as of start of program)
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Rising Sophomore, Junior or Senior
  • GPA 3.0 or above
