Summer/Fall 2023 Registration Information
Please ensure that you have completed your Pre-Registration questionnaire on your To Do List on ULink before Priority Registration on March 27! The hold on your account will be lifted as soon as this is complete. For more instructions on how to complete this process, please click here.
Search for Honors Classes
Honors classes can be offered in a wide variety of departments each semester. The easiest way to find these courses is by using the Class Search. On the search page, select "Honors Courses" from the "Degree Requirement Category" drop-down box, and a complete list of all Honors courses being offered in that semester will result (note: this list will include Scholars Seminars that require permission from an Honors advisor in advance - please be sure to read all details about the class before attempting to enroll in it). You can also cross-reference Honors classes with other search criteria such as a particular Subject area or a Mode of Instruction. For example, if you'd like to see all the Honors classes that are being taught as Distance Ed in a particular semester, you can do so using these two filters in Class Search.
Validation before Registration
Prior to priority registration day, it is good practice to validate your ULink Shopping Cart. In the "Add" tab of your Shopping Cart, ensure that all of the courses you would like to take are visible. Select them, then click "Validate." The system will run a brief check of your schedule to ensure that you have no holds and that you meet the course prerequisites.
Regular/non-Seminar Honors Courses
Current Honors students do not need an Honors advisor's permission to enroll in non-Seminar Honors courses. You will add Honors courses to your cart and enroll as if they were regular, non-Honors courses. If you would like to be on the waitlist in case a course fills before you can enroll, you must select "Okay to waitlist" for the course in question during your registration process.
If you are an active Honors student and receive an error message about needing "permission from the Honors Program/director" for a non-Seminar class, please contact the Honors Front Desk (information below).
Scholars seminars are the only Honors courses that still require permission from an Honors advisor during your appointment in order to enroll. Permissions for Scholars Seminars will typically be entered a couple of weeks before priority registration. If you receive an error message that you do not have permission for a Seminar, even though your advisor added you to the list during your appointment, double-check that you are attempting to add the correct section. For example, HON 436-02 and HON 446-02 could be listed as the same class, but one will count for Humanities credit, and the other will count for Social Science credit. You will only have permission for the credit you chose during your appointment. Please double-check that your section number and course listing matches what you have in your Honors advising notes. If you no longer have the email that your Honors advisor sent with your advising notes, you can also access them by logging into your CardSmart account.
If you have validated your cart and received an error message, or are planning to take pre-requisite courses, please read through the common pre-requisite situations below. If your question is not answered, please email us with a screenshot of the error message or with details of your situation and we will respond as soon as we can.
You may receive an error message about the pre-requisite being met conditionally. If you encounter this message when you validate your courses, please note that it is alerting you only of a potential problem. If you are currently taking the necessary pre-requisite, you will be able to enroll for the next class in the sequence. However, you may later be removed from the class should you not successfully complete the pre-requisite by the time grades are posted at the end of the current semester.
Concurrent Enrollment in a Prerequisite Course
Concurrent enrollment in a course and its prerequisite (e.g., PSYC 301 and PSYC 302) is typically not allowed unless indicated in the course description or via special permission from an instructor. If it is not indicated as an option in the course description, please contact the instructor or department for more information on obtaining permission for concurrent enrollment.
Automated Waitlist Swap Scenarios
If your desired Honors class fills, please consider setting up an automated waitlist Swap Scenario for that course. Go ahead and register for a full schedule without that Honors class, and then select a course from your currently enrolled schedule that you’d like to swap out for the Honors course, should you move up off of the Honors class waitlist. Click here for some screen images and instructions for how best to use this feature on ULink.
Take the process through the final confirmation stage, and then you will be able to track your waitlist position and status on your “My Class Schedule” screen in ULink. If you move up off of the waitlist for your Honors class, it will automatically be swapped for the class you chose in this scenario, barring any error issues at that time.
