Biography
Won Joo Ahn is Assistant Professor of Music and Assistant Director of Choral Activities at the University of Louisville School of Music, where she conducts the University Chorus and the Women's Chorus. Under her leadership, the Women's Chorus was selected to perform at the 2025 Kentucky Music Educators Association (KMEA) Professional Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
Dr. Ahn teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in choral conducting, choral literature, and instrumental score reading. She is active as a guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician. Her research focuses on developing Korean diction guides using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) for non-Korean singers.
Dr. Ahn holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Music from the University of Louisville. She earned her Bachelor of Music from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, where she graduated as valedictorian.
Research Interests
Her research focuses on developing Korean diction guides using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) for non-Korean singers.
