Biography
Professor Thomas Blackburn joined the Brandeis School of Law faculty full time in 1976 after several years of service as an adjunct professor. He became a tenured professor in 1979 and has taught courses across the spectrum of tax and business law.
A graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School and Harvard Law School, Professor Blackburn practiced law as a partner in a Louisville firm before transitioning into full-time teaching. He has served the law school as associate dean during three terms: 1989–91, 1994–95 and 2008–10.
Professor Blackburn is admitted to practice before all federal courts in Kentucky and all state courts in Kentucky. He is also a certified public accountant, licensed in Kentucky and Tennessee (inactive). His teaching and scholarship focus on tax law, corporate governance, and business planning, with particular expertise in entrepreneurship, estate planning and the law of wills, trusts and future interests.
