Biography

Rebecca Callahan, DO is a Pediatric Hospital Medicine Physician for the Norton Children's Medical Group. She currently splits her clinical time between inpatient hospital medicine and newborn medicine. Dr. Callahan is originally from Cincinnati, OH. She received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) where she served as a research assistant for 1 year prior to starting medical school at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine - Georgia Campus (GA-PCOM) in Suwanee, GA. After receiving her medical degree at GA-PCOM, she then completed a categorical Pediatrics Residency program at Geisinger in Danville, PA. She then moved to San Antonio, TX where she completed a fellowship in Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Christus Children's Hospital. She started her career with Norton in August 2023. 

Research Interests

Dr. Callahan's research interests include simulation, specifically using hospital medicine-based, multi-disciplinary simulations to improve medical team communication and patient care to improve patient outcomes. Other areas of scholarly work include improving multi-disciplinary communication and collaboration, hands-on skills training, caring for patients with complex medical needs and medical devices, early recognition of a decompensating, or at-risk patients, prevention of clinical worsening and safety events, and recognition and prevention of child abuse and neglect. 

Her prior research and presentations have included topics such as autoimmune encephalitis, pediatric admissions for child abuse, improving discharge instructions for patients and families, medical telephone triage, QI work regarding standard medication weans, and medical education scholarship regarding evaluation of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) for pediatric trainees.
