Biography

I have training in molecular/cellular neurobiology and signal transduction. I made several important discoveries mapping neuronal survival pathways, defining roles of the nucleolus and ribosomal biogenesis in the nervous system or studying cellular stress signaling after spinal cord injury. The current focus of my research program is to identify candidate therapeutic targets to enhance functional recovery after neurotrauma. I have trained several PhD students and postdocs. I served on multiple DoD and NIH study sections. I currently serve honorary roles on editorial boards of several scientific journals.

Research Interests

Mapping signaling pathways that drive tissue loss, limit neurorecovery, and promote development of complications after acute injuries to the brain and/or spinal cord. Developing novel therapeutic interventions to improve outcome after acute injuries to the brain and/or spinal cord.
