Michael Alsop
Biography
Dr. Michael Alsop has fifteen years of teaching experience in secondary and higher education in music. He is an Assistant Professor of Music Education and Music Education Coordinator at the University of Louisville. Michael was previously Lecturer of Music Education and Athletic Bands at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. In addition to his work at UofL, Michael enjoys visiting with local middle and high school bands and teaching with marching arts organizations in the summers. He is an avid runner and reader, makes a mean pot of chorizo chili, and cheers for his favorite college football teams in the fall (go Cards and Dawgs!). Throughout his experiences, Michael seeks to cultivate a life-long love of music in every student he is honored to meet.
Research Interests
Motivation in elective music ensembles, qualitative research methods, the research-practice gap in music education, practical applications of learning theories in K-12 music education settings.
