Biography

Mary P. Sheridan (PhD in Writing Studies from the U of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) publishes and teaches on questions relating to feminist methodologies, community engagement, institutional leadership, and digital composing. She has written Girls, Feminism, and Grassroots Literacies: Activism in the GirlZone and Design Literacies: Learning and Innovation in the Digital Age (with Jennifer Rowsell) and has co-edited Making Future Matters; Writing for Engagement: Responsive Practice for Social Action; Writing Studies Research in Practice: Methods and Methodologies as well as Feminism and Composition: A Critical Sourcebook. Her articles have appeared in CCC, Computers&Composition, Kairos, JAC, Written Communication, FeministTeacher, CompositionStudies, and Journal of Basic Writing.

Sheridan is also committed to engaging the public on educational matters being featured on international podcasts such as the London School of Economics and Political Science Educational Blog, publishing in national education venues like the Chronicle of Higher Education, and engaging local audiences, such as Louisville's Courier Journal,

Sheridan has earned many award and leadership positions. She won the Winifred Bryan Horner Outstanding Book Award from Coalition of Women Scholars in the History of Rhetoric and Composition; the Civic Scholarship/Book of the Year Award from Reflections: A Journal of Writing, Service-Learning, and Community Literacy; as part of a collaborative group, the Computer and Composition’s Michelle Kendrick Outstanding Digital Production/Scholarship Award; and, with her co-authors, contributed to the edited collection which won Book of the Year from the Conference on Community Writing. She was the Benjamin Meaker Distinguished Scholar in residence at the University of Bristol (UK) and currently serves on their international Centre for Higher Education Transformation. She was founding director of the Digital Media Academy at the University of Louisville and currently serves as the founding director of the Humanities are the Common Wealth of Kentucky Consortium.
